Gent were held to a draw at KRC Genk on Saturday night. The 1-1 result marks the first points dropped this season for Hein Vanhaezebrouck's side.

Momodou Sonko put the visitors ahead after just nine minutes following an assist from Tiago Araújo. Gent dominated the opening half-hour and kept the hosts at bay comfortably. After the break, Genk struck back. Within two minutes, Rafiu Durosinmi equalised, assisted by Junya Ito. Gent then dropped deep and struggled to create further dangerous chances. Late on, the team escaped defeat when a shot from Kayembe struck the post.

Reaction

Mathias Delorge gave his reaction after the final whistle. "We came here with full confidence in ourselves," the Gent player said. He acknowledged the team's drop in level after the equaliser. "We sank, sank, sank and stayed there." Nevertheless, he played down the dropped points, pointing to the strong run that preceded it.
