Gent loses the Romanian midfielder Darius Olaru to Union SG. The 30-year-old player signs a contract with the Brussels club until mid-2030. Olaru was previously active at KAA Gent and RSC Anderlecht, but chooses now for the project of Union SG. The Belgian top clubs come already in each other's waters. It is certainly not different this summer. Darius Olaru is an experienced midfielder who has played for the Romanian top club FCSB for the past six years. He was twice national champion and won once the cup. Olaru has experience in the Europa League and as an international at the 2024 European Championship, where he came on against the Red Devils. The player himself looks forward to the new challenge in Brussels: "I have been looking forward to this day for a long time and can not wait until the preparation begins. I look forward to meeting my teammates and seeing the stadium full of our fans." The transfer value of Olaru has meanwhile dropped to five million euros, while it was even up to 7.5 million euros. At Union, he can work again on added value. Subscribe to the Voetbalkrant newsletter to follow the latest developments around Gent.
