Gent face a Swedish hurdle in the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round. The Buffalos meet IFK Göteborg on 6 and 13 August, with a place in the play-offs for the group stage at stake.
Swedish side IFK Göteborg progressed past Levadia Tallinn after extra time in the previous round. Gent, who finished 5th in the 2025 Jupiler Pro League with 24 points (13W-7D-12L) and a +4 goal difference (51 scored, 47 conceded), must win to advance. A loss would end their European campaign.
A victory over Göteborg would secure a play-off spot, the final step before the group stage. Gent, who finished 15 points behind league leaders Union St. Gilloise, have a chance to prove themselves in Europe. Their next domestic fixture is away to St. Truiden on 13 February 2027.
If Gent win, they advance to the play-offs, where a draw will decide their next opponent. A loss would eliminate them from the Conference League. Anderlecht, who face PAOK Saloniki, have a similar challenge in the Europa League.
