KAA Gent are concerned about the condition of defender Bashir Ngom following the win over Standard. The player suffered a serious knee injury and had to be substituted early.
Coach Rik De Mil expressed his worry after the match. "It was very nasty to see," De Mil said. "When you see how that knee moves, I think of a cruciate ligament, but I am not a doctor." The coach added that he hopes his feeling is wrong. Ngom is considered an important factor for the team, which sits second in the Jupiler Pro League with 19 points from seven games.
The injury comes at an unfortunate time with the international break approaching. Gent resume league action on 10 October with an away match at Zulte Waregem, currently sixth in the table.
