The Belgian title race will once again be between Club Brugge and Union Saint-Gilloise this season. That is the view of Niels Poissonnier, the football editor of Het Laatste Nieuws, following the completion of matchday seven.
Poissonnier is reacting to the current standings, where Gent sit a strong second with nineteen points. "Matchday 7 confirmed a feeling that existed before this season: it will soon (again) be between Club Brugge and Union," he says. He calls the high positions of Gent and Charleroi a compliment to the season's surprises but expects it will be difficult to maintain this level.
For the analyst, Club and Union are simply the two best teams in the country. "In terms of quality, maturity and intensity (!), they are simply the two best teams in the country," Poissonnier explains. He points to players like Forbs, Vanaken, Zeneli and Zorgane as potential difference-makers.
Gent enter the coming weeks unbeaten, with a run of four wins and a draw in their last five matches. Their latest victory was a 2-1 home win over Standard Liege.
