Standard Liège are looking for a response at Gent on Saturday after taking a hit at Westerlo. The Rouches lost 4-2 there and now seek recovery at the Arteveldestadion.
Casper Nielsen, Standard's Danish midfielder, reacted to the defeat. "We got a blow to the face against Westerlo; now we have to get back up," said Nielsen. The player stressed the importance of a reaction. "The most important thing is the response, how we bounce back."
The task in Gent is tough. Standard have not won away at KAA Gent since April 2019. In the most recent meeting, on September 18, Gent won 2-1. That victory helped Gent to second place in the Jupiler Pro League, with 16 points from six games.
After the match in Gent, Standard face away games against Charleroi and Genk. Ivan Leko's team therefore want to regain momentum quickly. Nielsen remains positive about the chances in Gent. "I think we can achieve something there," he explained. "It will be a nice match. They have respect for us and our style of play, and I expect a good game."
For Gent, this is a chance to continue their strong run. The Buffaloes are unbeaten in their last five league matches. Their next assignment is an away game at Zulte Waregem on October 10.
